This is the inventor with early prototypes.
Hello. I love walking, hiking and trail running, but at the same time I want to strengthen my upper body muscles. I have patented heavy-duty adjustable weight trekking poles which do just that. These fitness walking poles enable full body workouts on trails, sidewalks and beaches. I call these hiking sticks OgreSticks.
I have been working towards the goal of obtaining a patent since 2014, continually testing and improving my weighted trekking pole concept. I have taken hundreds of walks, hikes and trail runs with my prototype weighted poles with between 5 and 20 pounds of weights. I call those activities Weight Walking, Heavy Hiking and Weight Running.
The motions of using OgreSticks are simple. As you're moving forward you lift the pole, plant it just ahead of you, push until the pole is behind you, and then lift the pole when it is behind you. This is the same motion that is used in cross-country skiing. However, with the weights on the bottoms of each pole, the base will automatically move forward with a pendulum-like motion. There is no strain on the wrists.
These new forms of exercise burn many more calories than the corresponding exercises performed without my patented weighted trekking poles. Workout time is also optimized because of the extra calories burned. This is particularly important for those who struggle to fit exercise into their days. I envision athletes, weekend warriors and even occasional walkers of all ages engaged in Weight Walking, Heavy Hiking and Weight Running. OgreSticks can also help Nordic skiers push their workouts to the limit.
My goal is to license my U.S. Patent No. 10,722,010 to a manufacturing company to receive royalties from the sales of the products described in the patents. I am open to other types of arrangements as well.
You can find my patent at:

If you review the full patent, please note that there are two different designs shown. One has two-piece poles and the second has three-piece poles. The three-piece poles can be disassembled and packed into luggage or into backpacks or rucksacks. Also, the drawings in my latest patent show two new designs for pole handles. One is a multiple grip handle and the and other has the angled grip shown above. Standard straight trekking pole handles can be used instead.
I look forward to hearing from you about my invention.
Sincerely,
Douglas J. D’Jay, CEO and Inventor

This exploded diagram illustrates on the left an angled handle (optimally designed in order to minimize strain on the wrist) with a strap attached to the upper segment of the pole, which is solid steel, with 20 holes through it for the purpose of height adjustment.
On the right at the top are 3 crescent-shaped weights which will slide down over the outside of the bottom segment of the pole to the bottom, resting on the lip there. The bottom segment is hollow, and the upper segment on the left is inserted into the bottom segment, which will lock into place at the desired height using the spring-loaded locking mechanism on the far right. (This is the same kind of height adjustment and locking mechanism that is used to adjust the height of the seat on exercise bikes.) At the very bottom of the bottom segment is a rubber tip, which can be unscrewed and easily replaced once it is worn out.
